1. Virgil van Dijk – Liverpool
Virgil is arguably the current best defender in the Premier League. He has been solid in defence for Liverpool and helped them claim the Champions League trophy last season. The 28-year-old centre-back was recently named the Defender of the Season for 2018/2019 Champions League.
The Netherland international was the first defender in ten years to be voted the PFA Player’s Player of the Season. He has equally been in fantastic form this season. He has played 360 minutes, scored once, and has a pass completion rate of 86%. He is also dominant in aerial duels.
He cost Liverpool £75 million to sign him from Southampton, and he has defended the price tag with brilliant performances. He is among the top contenders for 2019 Ballon d’Or.

The Frenchman is among the best defenders in the Premier League. He can read the game and know where to be on the pitch at the right time. The 26-year-old English defender has been able to establish himself in Manchester United’s defence. The former Leicester City man is not just the most expensive defender in the world, but has become a dominant force in United’s backline.
