1. 2022 WOMEN’S AFC ASIAN CUP
The 2022 Women’s Asian Cup will be the 20th edition of the quadrennial football tournament organized by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) for the women national teams in the Asian region.
This year’s tournament will be hosted by India, and it will be from the 20th of January to the 6th of February 2022. It will be played in three venues across three cities, namely: Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, and Pune. All the games will be played behind closed doors due to coronavirus.
The tournament, which is normally contested by eight teams, has been expanded to 12 teams for the first time in history.
The 2022 Women’s Asian Cup will also serve as the last stage of qualification for Asian countries for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
2. 2022 UEFA WOMEN’S CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINAL
The 2022 UEFA Women’s Champions League final will be the 13th edition since the tournament was rebranded from UEFA Women’s Cup to the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
The final will be played at the Juventus Stadium in Turin, Italy, on the 22nd of May 2022.
3. AFRICAN WOMEN’S CUP OF NATIONS
The 2022 edition of the African Women’s Cup of Nations, officially known as the Total Women’s African Cup of Nations, will be the 12th edition of the biennial International women’s football championship organized by CAF.
It will be hosted by Morocco and will be held from the 2nd to the 23rd of July 2022. The venues have not been disclosed yet.
The 2022 African Women’s Cup of Nations will be competed by twelve teams and will serve as qualification by African countries for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Nigeria are 3-time defending champions, having won the last three tournaments in 2014, 2016, and 2018. The 2020 edition was cancelled due to Covid-19.
4. UEFA WOMEN’S EURO 2022
The 2022 UEFA European Women’s Football Championship, also known as the UEFA Women’s Euros, will be the 13th edition of the quadrennial championship.
It was initially scheduled to hold in 2021 but was postponed due to the fact that both the Olympics and the men’s Euros were postponed from 2020 to 2021 due to coronavirus.
The 2022 UEFA Women’s Euros will be hosted by England, and it will be played from the 6th to the 31st of July 2022. It will held in 10 different venues across 8 cities. Netherlands are the defending champions.
5. COPA AMERICA FEMENINA
The 2022 Copa America Femenina will be the 9th edition of the international football tournament for women in South America organised by CONMEBOL.
The tournament will be hosted by Columbia from the 8th to the 30th of July 2022 in three venues across three cities. Brazil are the defending champions.
The 2022 edition of the Copa America Femenina will be the last tournament that be held every four years (quadrennial) as it will now be held every two years (biennial). It will also serve as the last stage of qualification by South American countries for next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup.
6. FIFA U-20 WOMEN’S WORLD CUP
The 2022 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup will be 10th edition of the biennial International women’s youth football tournament organised by FIFA for U20 women. This is one of the major football tournaments that will take place in 2022.
Costa Rica, who were initially expected to host the 2020 edition that was cancelled due to Covid-19, will host this year’s tournament. It will be played from the 10th to the 28th of August 2022.
It will be played in two venues across two cities namely: Estadio Nacional in San Jose and Estadio Alejandro Morero Soto in Alajuela.
It will be competed by sixteen teams. Japan are the defending champions.
7. FIFA U-17 WOMEN’S WORLD CUP
The 2022 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup will be the 7th edition of the biennial International women’s youth football championship organized by FIFA for U17 women.
It will be hosted by India, who were supposed to host the 2020 edition that cancelled due to Covid-19. The venues have not yet been disclosed.
The 2022 U17 FIFA women’s World Cup will be held from the 11th to the 30th of October 2022 and will be contested by sixteen(16) teams.
