1. Basel FC

Basel is a Swiss top division club that was established in 1893. Bebbi, as they are fondly called, is one of the most successful teams in Switzerland. They have been crowned league champions 20 times in their history and have also won the Swiss Cup on 13 occasions. They have also participated several times in continental competitions. Their best showing was a run to the semifinals of the UEFA Europa League in the 2012-2013 campaign. Egyptian superstar Mohamed Salah used to play for Basel.

2. Grasshoppers Club Zurich

GCZ is the most successful club in the country has won a record 27 league titles. The Zurich-based side was established 134 years ago, and since its inception have dominated the Swiss football landscape. Grasshoppers have also won the Swiss Cup a record 19 times. Stadtclub will be playing in the next season of the Super League after gaining promotion from the Swiss Challenge League.

3. BSC Young Boys

Young Boys were established 123 years ago and since then have grown into one of the best teams in the country. The Bern-based club has won the league title 15 times in their illustrious history and are the current defending champions. They have also won the Swiss Cup 7 times. Their home ground is the Wankdorf Stadium. Their home jersey is a black and yellow single stripe combination.

4. FC Lugano 

Lugano has a proud 113-year history in Swiss football. The Swiss side has won the league on 3 occasions way back in the 1930s and 40s. They have also won the Swiss Cup 3 times as well. In recent years they have been frequent participants in the group stages of the UEFA Europa League. Their home and away jerseys are black and white respectively.

5. FC St. Gallen

Espen, as they are fondly called, was founded in 1879 and is currently the oldest club in Switzerland that is still existing. The Swiss club side has only won the league twice in their history. They haven’t recorded too much success in the Swiss cup either only, winning it once in 1969. They play in a Green and white top over white shorts and green socks.
