The recently concluded 2021/2022 campaign was an exciting race that went down to the wire. After many years without a league title to their name, AC Milan finally clinched their 19th Scudetto championship after an 11-year wait.

The 2022/23 Serie A season will be the 121st editon of top-flight Italian football. ie will begin on 13 August 2022 and conclude on 4 June 2023.

This upcoming 2022/2023 campaign also promises to be just as entertaining and action-packed, with newly-promoted Serie A sides Lecce, Monza, and Cremonese set to be part of the 20 teams that will do battle across 38 matchdays. 

These Serie A clubs will compete, not just for the title, but to finish as high as possible on the final Serie A table. The reason is because finishing higher in the table also translates to increased Serie A prize money.

How will the 2022/23 Serie A prize money be distributed?

Like other top European leagues, the Italian Serie A attracts huge amounts of money through sponsorships and TV Rights. TV rights money is usually gotten from international and domestic broadcast partnerships, and can worth billions of Euros. In fact, on June 2022, the Serie A reached a deal with TV platform Abu Dhabi Media to broadcast the Italian league in the Middle East and North Africa.

The amount of money gotten from TV rights deals the Serie A has increased rapidly in the past few years, and is close to €1.5 billion now.

A good chunk of the money is usually paid out to the 20 teams comprising the league in the form of prize money.

This money is shared using the 50-30-20 distribution model.

50% of the prize money will be equally shared between the 20 teams. 30% is then shared according to performances and final log placements of the teams, while the remaining 20% is shared based on the size of each club’s supporter base.
