Spezia, Cremonese, and Sampdoria were relegated from Serie A after spending three, one, and eleven years respectively in the top flight.
They were replaced by Frosinone, Genoa, and Cagliari — who are the newly promoted Serie A teams for the 2023/24 season. Frosinone returned to Serie A after an absence of four years, while Genoa and Cagliari both returned after one year of absence.
These three aforementioned sides gained promotion from Serie B, the second tier of Italian football.

Frosinone Calcio
Frosinone is a side based in the city of the same name in the Lazio region of the country.
I Canarini is a 117-year-old club that has had to work their way up from the lower rungs of Italian football to the top tier of Serie A.
They gained promotion to the Italian top flight after impressively finishing top of Serie B for the first time in their history, garnering 80 points from 38 matches.
This will be their third time playing in Serie A after a four-year absence.
The Yellow and Blues will be hoping to avoid the inconsistency of past campaigns as they head into the 2023/2024 league campaign.
Frosinone will be counting on their fans to spur them on to success as they aim to avoid relegation and retain their status by the season’s end.
Their home ground is the 16,000-plus capacity Stadio Benito Stirpe.
Cagliari
Sardinian side Cagliari is making an instant return to the big leagues after a one-year absence.
Gli Isolani gained promotion back to Serie A after defeating fellow Serie B side Bari in the playoff final, even though they finished fifth in the log for the regular season.
The Peruvian international Gianluca Lapadula was largely instrumental to their success.
The Serie B top goal scorer found the back of the net an impressive 25 times to help propel Rossoblu to Serie A.
The club who won the Scudetto in the 1969/70 season will be hoping for another extended stay in the Italian top flight as they battle to avoid the drop by season’s end.
Charismatic Italian manager Claudio Ranieri will be hoping for another Cinderella-like run this campaign as he leads l Sardi into the 2023-2024 season.
Cagliari will play their home matches at the 16,416-capacity Unipol Domus ground.
Genoa CFC
Genoa is another team making an instant return to the Serie A. They are one of the oldest football clubs in the world.
In fact, Genoa is Italy’s oldest football team, and the oldest Italian team that are still active with over 125 years of history.
They achieved this feat by finishing second in Serie B, amassing 73 points from 38 games to gain automatic promotion back to Italian top-flight football.
Il Grifone is currently being managed by Alberto Gilardino. Genoa will be aiming to avoid relegation like the other newly promoted sides by the end of the season.
The 129-year-old club will play their matches at the 36,599-capacity Stadio Luigi Ferraris.
