The 93rd edition of the Spanish La Liga, arguably the best league in the world, is set to begin on 11th August 2023.
Once again 20 teams, including the newly promoted La Liga clubs for the 2023/24 season — Granada, Las Palmas, and Alaves, will battle for the title, European places, and to avoid the drop.
They will replace Elche, Espanyol, and Real Valladolid who were relegated to the Segunda Division at the end of the 2022/23 season.
Granada and Alaves are making a return to the Spanish top flight after a one-year absence, while Las Palmas is making a comeback after getting relegated five seasons ago.
Today we will be discussing in detail the three newly promoted La Liga sides for the 2023/2024 season.
Granada CF
The Andalusian club side is making a triumphant return to La Liga after winning the Segunda Division, garnering 75 points from 42 games.
The Nazaries finished the 2022-2023 season with the most goals finding the back of the net 55 times.
Albanian winger Myrto Uzuni contributed 23 of those goals to finish as the division’s top scorer.
Granada forward Jose Callejon was also instrumental to the team’s success posting a league-topping nine assists.
The Paco Lopez-led side will be hoping to take this form into the upcoming league campaign.
The captain of Granada CF is 35-year-old right-back, Víctor Díaz.
The club will look to avoid another relegation scrap as they aim to maintain their La Liga status by the end of the season.
UD Las Palmas
The newly promoted La Liga is based in the holiday resort town of the same name in the Canary Islands.
La Union Deportiva gained automatic promotion to the Spanish top flight after finishing second in the Segunda Division, amassing 72 points from 42 games.
Las Palmas was also a free-scoring side banging in 49 goals throughout the season.
Talented midfielder Alberto Moleiro contributed eight assists to help the Islanders seal their place in La Liga.
The club, which was founded in 1949, will play its home matches at the 32,400-capacity Estadio Gran Canaria.
Head coach Garcia Pimienta will be at the reins when the season takes off and will be aiming to avoid relegation by the season’s end.
García Pimienta, who was the former coach of the Barcelona B team, has turned Las Palmas into an attacking possession-based team so definitely one to watch this season.
Deportivo Alaves
The Babazorros made a dramatic return to the Spanish La Liga after beating fellow promotion hopefuls Levante 1-0 on aggregate in the Segunda Division playoff finals.
The winning goal came in the 130th minute when on-loan striker Asier Villalibre scored for Alaves.
Alaves had initially qualified for the playoffs by virtue of finishing fourth on the log in the regular season.
El Glorioso will be hoping their fortunes will be more positive this time in the Spanish top flight as they prepare for the commencement of the 2023/2024 La Liga season later this summer.
Alaves winger Luis Rioja will also be hoping to make the step up after his impressive 10-goal feat in the last Segunda campaign.
The Blue and Whites’ head coach is Luis Garcia Plaza, and they will be playing their home games at the 19,840-capacity Mendizorrotza stadium.
