The number 14 shirt may not be in the first 11 lineups, but it is usually worn by players who are the first choice in their teams.

It is also an iconic number worn by several big stars in previous years and can also be about an alternative to number 7 on the pitch of play.

Usually, the number is worn by wing forwards, strikers and attacking midfielders. Xabi Alonso, Thierry Henry, and Johan Cruyff are some great examples of footballers who wore the number 14 jersey.

However, let’s take a look at the football players who are wearing the number 14 jersey in 2022.

1. Aymeric Laporte (Manchester City)

Aymeric Laporte is a top-notch defender that plays for Manchester City and the Spanish national team in the centre-back position.

Laporte joined Manchester City from Athletic Club in 2018 and has won the Premier League title on multiple occasions and has also helped City to the UEFA Champions League final, which they lost to Chelsea.

He is also part of the La Roja team at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar. He is one of the best left-footed centre-backs in the world.

The 28-year-old has been wearing the number 14 jersey since he joined Manchester City in 2018.

2. Jordan Henderson (Liverpool)

A lot of people may mistake Jordan Henderson for a one-club man.

However, while he has been with Liverpool since 2011, over 12 years now, the 33-year-old has also played for two other clubs, Sunderland, where he was bought from by Liverpool and a loan stint at Coventry City.

Henderson has won the Premier League and UEFA Champions League with Liverpool and has over 70 appearances for the Three Lions.

3. Christian Eriksen (Manchester United)

Christian Eriksen’s presence in football is still an emotional one, having suffered what looked like a cardiac arrest in the 2022 Euros with the Danish national team.

He was contracted to Inter Milan when the incident happened, but when he returned after the tournament, the rules of Serie A meant that he would not be able to play in the league anymore.

Eriksen returned to the Premier League, where he previously played for Tottenham, to join Brentford before signing for Manchester United, where he currently wears the number 14 jersey.

Christian Eriksen is regarded as one of the greatest Danish footballers of all time, and one of the best deep-lying playmakers in football.

4. Memphis Depay (Barcelona)

Dutch forward Memphis Depay was close to exiting Camp Nou in the summer when Barcelona was trying to downsize their team.

However, the former Manchester United and Lyon forward remains with Barcelona wearing the number 14 Jersey.

He previously wore the number 9 jersey at Barcelona, but the arrival of Robert Lewandowski meant that he had to change jersey numbers.

With the presence of Robert Lewandowski, his playtime is limited, and even with that, he remains a big part of the Netherlands national team for the World Cup.

5. Ivan Perišić (Tottenham Hotspurs)

Croatian strikers Ivan Perišić had played for some of the biggest clubs in the world, including Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich, and Inter Milan, where he was before he moved to North London club Tottenham Hotspurs.

His presence at Tottenham can be linked to his relationship with Antonio Conte, who was his manager at Inter Milan.

6. Eddie Nketiah (Arsenal)

English-Ghanaian forward Eddie Nketiah still plays for the England under-21 side. However, his potential and talent are there for all to see anytime he plays for Arsenal, especially in the Europa League and cup ties.

He doesn’t seem weighed down by the pressure of wearing one of Arsenal’s most iconic shirts anytime he is on the pitch of play.

For proper perspective, the number 14 has been won by Thierry Henry, Theo Walcott, and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang at Arsenal.

7. Marcos Llorente (Atletico Madrid)

It’s as if Marcos Llorente had only played in the Spanish capital of Madrid all his life, having gotten to prominence with Real Madrid before he went to Atletico Madrid, where he currently plies his trade. However, he once had a loan stint at Alaves.

The midfielder can also play as a right-back and has been included in Spain’s World Cup team. Marcos Llorente is regarded as one of the most versatile footballers.

8. Trevoh Chalobah (Chelsea)

Twenty-three-year-old Trevoh Chalobah can play as a defender defensive midfielder.

He is on the books of Chelsea, although his appearances for the club are limited, and this is because he has been on several loan moves. He has made a couple of appearances for the English national team.

9. Tiemuye Bakayoko (AC Milan)

Bakayoko moved to Chelsea in 2017 but is yet to make 50 appearances for the Stamford Bridge club.

This is because he hasn’t been able to cement his starting shirt and has shipped on loan to several clubs, including Milan, Monaco and Napoli.

For Chelsea fans who do not know the whereabouts of the midfielder, he’s currently at the San Siro wearing the number 14 shirt.

10. Aleksandar Isak (Newcastle)

Swedish striker Alexander Isak is Newcastle’s record signing ever after moving from Real Sociedad to Saint James’s Park in the summer.

Even though his welcome has been cut short by a long-term injury, Isak has shown quality by scoring in his first few games for Newcastle.
