On August 14 2017, FC Barcelona announced the signing of Brazilian midfielder Paulinho. This was their first signing following the departure of fellow Brazilian Neymar Junior to Paris Saint Germain.

1. His full name is José Paulo Bezerra Maciel Júnior. He then goes by the nickname Paulinho.

2. He is married to Barbara Cartaxo. They dated for 7 years before getting married. They have a daughter.

3. In 2008, Paulinho almost quit football. He was targeted by racists at his club at Lithuania then, FC Vilnius. He then left the club at went to LKS Lodz in Poland. His spell there was disappointing.

4. After leaving Poland, hr returned to Brazil and started all over again by playing for a Fourth Division club, Pao de Acucar. He then moved to Bragantino and eventually knew he was moving forward and then joined Corinthians.

5. Paulinho made his international debut for the Seleção on 14 September 2011 in the first leg of the 2011 Superclásico de las Américas against rivals Argentina in Córdoba, which ended 0-0.

6. The next year he scored his first international goal for Brazil. Surprisingly, in the 2012 Superclásico las Américas against Argentina.

7. On December 2012, Paulinho and his Corinthians teamates, won the Club World Cup in Yokohama, after defeating current European Champions Chelsea.

8. Paulinho scored his first ever hat trick against Uruguay in an away match. It was the qualifiers for the 2018 World Cup.

9. He currently has 9 goals for Brazil in 41 matches, and 20 goals in 71 matches for Guangzhou Evergrande not bad right?

10. Paulinho was described by Christopher Atkins as a strong box-to-box midfielder, with powerful running and good movement into the box. He possesses the ability to push his side forward from midfield to supplement his strong defensive work. Paulinho also offers a useful presence in set piece situations at both ends of the pitch.
