How Barcelona Can Improve Ahead Of Next Season

The loss to Real Madrid was terrible, the aggregate was humiliating and their performance was miserable. Barcelona’s start to the 2017/2018 season has begun rather poorly. The departure of Brazilian superstar Neymar Jnr, has somewhat disorganized the team structure. Bartomeu and his board have come under serous criticism. There was a lot to be learned from the Spanish Super Cup clash. The 2017/2018 season will begin very soon, and I expect this year’s UEFA champions league and La Liga to be tough. With Barcelona’s dreaded teams like PSG, Bayern Munich and Juventus, competing there is need to improve. In order to avoid this season becoming shambolic and worse than last year.
Is there any hope of Barcelona improving after their loss to Real Madrid? Of course, Barcelona are a really good team, don’t forget they won the 2017 International Champions Cup (ICC). The teams just needs to make some major improvement and get over their Clasico loss.
How can Barcelona improve their performances ahead of the new season? Let’s take a critical look at some areas that need attention.

First, Barcelona need to beef up their midfield. Paulinho has been signed to team and will be unveiled on Thursday, but is Paulinho the solution to Barcelona’s midfield problem? Yes and No. No, because He is not an alternative to Marco Verrati whom the club eagerly sought from PSG. Yes, because he will add more physicality and aggression to a midfield that was easily outplayed by Real Madrid. Barcelona need to work on the midfield, because there’s no one to produce any creative spark there anymore. That’s why Messi and Neymar had always had to drop to midfield to pick the ball. Andres Iniesta is aging and there’s not one sure replacement. There need a midfielder that can pass and distribute the ball remarkably, someone that can create spaces for the attackers. Veratti would have solved the issue, but Coutinho can still do it if he is bought.

Secondly, Barcelona really need to go back and improve their famed La Masia academy. Barcelona have obviously forgotten that their best ever team was made up of La Masia graduates not £90 million signings. I still don’t get why Barcelona can’t stop selling and loaning their youth players unnecessarily. The funny thing is that these players end up playing very well later on, Hector Bellerin, Sandro Ramirez and Adama Traore are good examples. Barcelona are looking for a replacement for Xavi, it would been Thiago Alcantara. The youth players are not given a chance to show their worth.
In contrast, Zidane have turned his youngsters, Asensio and Vazquez into top stars. Manchester City has been poaching Barca’s youth talent since.

With
effort and sacrifice, you can also make it. Just
do it, it is worth it!”. – La Masia Slogan.

If Barcelona wants to improve next season it has to give their young players adequate playing time and that will boost their confidence. Instead of buying expensive flops, focus on the potential stars they can create. Rafinha, Samper and Roberto should not be sold, when they have great potential.

Third, they urgently need a good central defender. Pique had a bad game and now feels inferior to Real Madrid. He was slow and reacted poorly when Real Madrid was on the break. Gerard Pique is a good defender, no doubt, however his performances are inconsistent. Umtiti has been so amazing for Barcelona, and Javier Mascherano isn’t as good as he once was. Barcelona need to get a very good central defender to back up the current ones. Yerry Mina, Davinson Sanchez have been tracked by the team this transfer but none have been bought. The central defence is an area that needs attention.

Fourth, the Barcelona board needs to get their issues sorted out. The fans of Barcelona are not the same page with the Bartomeu lead board. They can’t go into the season with such conflict. The board needs to appease the fans by making them happy with good signings and victories, both for Barcelona A and Barcelona B.

Luis Suarez Injury 2017
Finally, Barcelona needs to start looking for or grooming a Luis Suarez replacement. He seemed to have slowed down. Paco Alcacer has performed modestly in his games, he can replace the Uruguayan but needs to be given confidence. Luis Suarez is currently injured for probably a month, the Spaniard can use this opportunity to prove his quality.

If these areas are improved I’m sure Barcelona will improve in the 2017/2018 season.
I’d love to read your comments. Also don’t forget to share these to all Barcelona fans, give them hope!

Thanks.
