The FIFA World Cup is arguably the most popular and prestigious sporting tournament on the face of the Earth.

This spectacle of football has been going strong since its maiden edition in 1930.

A few countries have had the privilege of winning the World Cup. Here is the list if countries that have won the World Cup.

1. Brazil

The Brazilian national team are the most successful senior men’s national football team, having won the World Cup a record 5 times in 1954, 1962, 1970, 1994 and 2002.

The Samba boys, as they are fondly called, have always brought entertainment and spectacle to every tournament they attend.

One of the reasons why Brazil have always been favourites to win the World Cup is because they usually produce some of the most talented football players.

Even today, some of the top Brazilian soccer players play for the best clubs in Europe.

They also hold the record of playing in every single World Cup finals.

2. Italy

The Azzuri are another side that has been very successful at the World Cup.

The Italians have won it 4 times in 1934, 1938, 1982 and 2006.

They are respected for their doggedness and passion that they bring to every tournament.

3. Germany

The Mannschaft are another team that has done quite well at the World Cup.

Germany has won the title 4 times in 1954, 1974, 1990 and 2014.

They are respected and highly regarded for their discipline and unyielding determination, which has made them so successful at World Cup tournaments.

4. Uruguay

This South American nation was one of the most successful countries in the early editions of the tournament.

Their only 2 triumphs came in the maiden 1930 edition and 1950.

Since then, they have fallen down the pecking order a bit, but are still respected as a force in World football.

The Argentines emerged as a force of global soccer in the late 1970s.

Since then, they have been able to win the FIFA World Cup three times in 1978, 1986, and 2022.

They usually bring a lot of skill and tenacity to every tournament.

Argentina have also produced some amazing football players. 

Currently, Argentina is the country with the most trophies in football.

Argentina are the current defending champions of the FIFA World Cup, after clinching the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Led by Lionel Messi, Argentina defeated France in the final on penalties to claim the trophy from them.

This is the first World Cup trophy for Lionel Messi.

6. France

Les Blues are one of the best contemporary sides in modern football.

Theh won the World Cup in 1998 and recently in Russia in 2018.

France are known for their talented players and the nation would definitely be optimistic of adding to their two titles in the nearest future.

7. England

The proverbial home of football have won the World Cup title only once in their history, way back in 1966 when they hosted the tournament.

England is one of the countries with the most football fans.

They are eagerly pursuing another World Cup title.

8. Spain

This emerging force of world football won their one and so far, the only tournament in South Africa 2010.

When Spain won the World Cup in 2010, thet had one of the greatest squad ever assembled in football history.

La Roja are blessed with highly technical and talented players.

They will be hoping they can win more World Cups in the future.
