Most of these tournaments were rescheduled to 2023 because of the aforementioned reasons.

The 2022 African Nations Championship (CHAN) will be the 7th edition of the biennial football tournament organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The competition features national teams consisting of (only) players CURRENTLY playing in their respective local leagues.

This edition of the tournament will be held in Algeria between the 13th of January to the 4th of February 2023.

It was originally scheduled to hold from the 10th of July to the 1st of August 2022, but CAF rescheduled it to January 2023 following an announcement at an executive committee meeting held in September 2020.

CAF cited the postponement of the 2020 edition of the tournament to 2021, as well as the postponement of the 2021 AFCON to 2022 (due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Africa) as reasons.

Also taken into consideration is the 2022 FIFA World Cup taking place from November to December 2022.

2. 2023 South American U-20 Championship

The 2023 South American U-20 Championship will be the 30th edition of the tournament.

This tournament will feature the most talented South American football youngsters.

Furthermore, the tournament returns after four years as a result of the cancellation of the 2021 edition.

The 2023 South American U-20 Championship will serve as the qualifier for two international events:

(i) The top 4 teams will qualify for the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Indonesia as CONMEBOL representatives.

(ii) The top 3 teams will qualify for the 2023 Pan American Games men’s football tournament — in addition to Chile, who automatically qualified as hosts.

12 nations will compete in it, and the top 4 teams will qualify for the FIFA U-20 World Cup held in Indonesia later that year.

In this upcoming football competition in 2023, you will get to see some of the most talented young African football talents play.

Ghana are the defending champions, having won their 4th title in 2021 — but will not defend the title after failing to qualify for the tournament.

6. 2023 AFC U-20 Asian Cup

The 2023 AFC U-20 Asian Cup will be the 41st edition of the biennial international youth football championship organised by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) for the men’s under-20 national teams of Asia.

This edition will be the first to be played as an under-20 tournament, as the AFC proposed to switch the tournament from U-19 to U-20 starting in 2023.

Moreover, Uzbekistan would retain hosting rights for the 2023 edition after the cancellation of the 2020 AFC U-19 Championship due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

It will be held from the 1st to the 18th of March 2023 and will feature 16 teams.

The young Asian football talents will compete in this prestigious youth football competition.

The top four teams in the tournament will qualify for the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Indonesia.

Furthermore, Saudi Arabia are the title holder — having won the title in 2018.

7. 2023 Copa Sudamericana

The 2023 Copa CONMEBOL Sudamericana will be the 22nd edition of South America’s secondary club football tournament organized by CONMEBOL.

Moreso, they will also automatically qualify for the 2024 Copa Libertadores group stage.

The 2023 South American U-17 Championship will be the 19th edition of the biennial international youth football championship organised by CONMEBOL for the men’s under-17 national teams of South America.

It will be held in Ecuador between the 30th of March and the 23rd of April 2023 and will return after 4 years as a result of the cancellation of the 2021 edition.

Just like the former editions, the tournament will serve as the CONMEBOL qualifiers for the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup.

The final four teams of the tournament will qualify for the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Peru as the CONMEBOL representatives, besides Peru, who qualified automatically as hosts.

2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup football tournaments in 2023

The 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup is one of the most anticipated football competitions in 2023.

This youth competition is going to be the 23rd edition of the biennial international men’s youth football championship played by the under-20 national teams.

Indonesia are the hosts of the competition, which will be the first FIFA tournament hosted by the country.

Furthermore, it will only be the second U-20 World Cup to be held in Southeast Asia (first in 1997) and the first FIFA tournament in the region since the 2012 FIFA Futsal World Cup.

It will be held between the 20th of May and the 11th of June, 2023. 24 countries (from 6 confederations) will participate in the tournament.

Indonesia was originally supposed to host the tournament in 2021, but the COVID-19 pandemic made FIFA to cancel the tournament, who awarded the 2023 hosting rights to the country on the 24th of December 2020.

Ukraine — the 2019 champions — were not able to defend their title as they failed to reach the final round of the UEFA qualifying tournament.

In doing so, they became the 7th consecutive title holders to fail to qualify for the subsequent tournament!!!

The 2023 UEFA Europa League final will be the final match of the 52nd season of Europe’s secondary club football tournament organised by UEFA — and the 14th season since it was renamed from the UEFA Cup to the UEFA Europa League.

The match will be played at the Puskás Aréna in Budapest, Hungary, on the 31st of May, 2023.

Due to the postponement and relocation of the 2020 final, the final hosts were shifted back a year, with Budapest instead hosting the 2023 final.

The winners will earn the right to play against the winners of the 2022/23 UEFA Champions League in the 2023 UEFA Super Cup.

15. 2023 UEFA Conference League final

2022/23 UEFA Conference League

16. 2023 UEFA Champions League final

The 2023 UEFA Champions League final will be the final match of the 68th season of Europe’s premier club football tournament organised by UEFA.

Furthermore, it will be the 31st season since it was renamed from the European Champion Clubs’ Cup to the UEFA Champions League.

The final will be played at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul, Turkey, on the 10th of June, 2023.

The final was originally scheduled to be played at Wembley Stadium in London, England.

However, due to the postponement and relocation of the 2020 final because of the COVID-19 pandemic in Europe, the scheduled hosts for subsequent finals were shifted back a year.

Subsequently, the Allianz Arena in Munich was assigned the 2023 final.

When the 2021 final (which had been scheduled to be played in Istanbul) also had to be relocated due to COVID-19 pandemic in Turkey, the 2023 final was given to Istanbul instead.

As a result, Munich will now host the 2025 final.

17. 2023 AFC Asian Cup

There are still doubts if it will still hold because the tournament was originally scheduled to be held in China from the 16th of June to the 16th of July 2023.

But on the 14th of May 2022, AFC announced that China would not host the tournament due to the circumstances caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and China’s Zero-COVID policy.

On the 17th of October, AFC announced that the tournament will be held in Qatar.

After 1988 and 2011, it will be held in Qatar for the third time.

Due to the high summer temperatures in the Gulf region, the tournament will PROBABLY BE POSTPONED from mid-2023 to early 2024.

18. UEFA U-21 Euro 2023

The 2023 UEFA European U-21 Championship is another exciting football tournament to watch in 2023.

It will be from the 21st of June to the 8th of July 2023.

The tournament will be co-hosted by Romania and Georgia. Romania will host the opening match, while Georgia will host the final.

Romania have already hosted the tournament in 1998.

Same as previous Under-21 Championships that were held one year prior to the Olympics, this tournament will serve as European qualifying for the Olympic football tournament.

Besides France, which qualifies automatically as Olympic hosts, eligible teams will compete for qualifying for the men’s football tournament of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

At the Olympics, they will be represented by their under-23 national teams, with a maximum of three overage players allowed.

Additionally, Germany are the defending champions.

19. UEFA Under-19 Euro 2023

England are the defending champions.

The 2023 UEFA Super Cup will be the 48th edition of the UEFA Super Cup, an annual football match organised by UEFA and contested by the reigning champions of the top two European club competitions — the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League.

It is currently scheduled to be played at the Ak Bars Arena in Kazan, Russia, on the 16th of August, 2023.

However, the venue is now uncertain due to the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, and UEFA is considering alternative venues.
