8 Shocking Football Predictions for 2020

Football predictions for 2020

As we enter the year 2020, we expect another fabulous year for football, just as 2019 was.

2019 was indeed a big year for football as Liverpool won the 2018/2019 UEFA Champions League, Brazil won the 2019 Copa America and Lionel Messi won the 2019 Ballon D’Or.

2020 promises to be even better, because they are some fantastic football tournaments that will take place in 2020.

Many fans would be eagerly anticipating what the year 2020 holds for football. Here are my 5 football predictions for 2020.

1. Manchester City to win the UEFA Champions League

Football predictions for 2020

After winning two back to back Premier League crowns with Manchester City, Pep Guardiola will definitely have his eyes set on the 2019/20 UEFA Champions League. He has been unfortunate to get eliminated in his last two Champions League sojourns.

Man City have the quality players and a tactical coach who can deliver their first Champions League trophy in 2020.

2. Inter Miami to flop in the MLS

Inter Miami is the American professional soccer club, co-owned by English legend David Beckham. The team set to commence play in Major League Soccer (MLS) from 2020. The club has appointed Uruguayan Diego Alonso as head coach and are set to sign some top veteran players to boost their club.

However, I predict that the club would flop in the next MLS season. My reason why is that club has focused much on PR and marketing and less on football. Also, they are still new and won’t meet up with the hype and expectations. They have been linked with signing the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Radamel Falcao.

3. Netherlands to win the 2020 Euros

The elite European competition will take place next year, with top countries like France, Spain, Croatia, Poland and England all favourites to win the tournament.

However, I predict that the Dutchmen will lift the trophy. The Oranje has witnessed the birth of a new golden generation, with exciting players like Frenkie De Jong, De Ligt, Depay, Van der Beek and Manyell who can win for them the trophy in the summer of 2020.

4. Lionel Messi to Win Ballon D’or

Messi emerged as the winner of the 2019 Ballon D’Or after having a splendid season. He outscored everyone and scored some memorable goals which made him a deserved winner.

In 2020, Lionel Messi is also likely to win the Ballon D’Or. His already scoring this season and could win the La Liga with Barcelona this season. Also, the likelihood of him winning the prestigious individual award will increase after he wins the 2020 Copa America with Argentina.

5. Argentina to win the 2020 Copa America

Yes, I said it. Argentina put up a pretty display in the last Copa America. Under Lionel Scaloni, the Argentine team has been united and constantly improving.

2020 could be the year Argentina finally wins the continental competition. Remember the tournament will be cohosted in Argentina and that might play to their advantage.

6. Inter Milan to win the Serie A

Juventus has enjoyed dominance in the Serie A for years, winning the Italian League trophy consecutively for many years is no small feat. However, next year we might see the finally lose the trophy to Inter Milan as walked his magic at Inter Milan. The club is now disciplined and organized.

While the striking partnership of Lautaro Martinez and Romelu Lukaku has shown promising signs already.

7. Bayern Munich to concede Bundesliga crown

Bayern Munich have not been too convincing in the German Bundesliga like they have been in the Champions League.

As at the time of this writing, Bayern Munich are third in the Bundesliga log, while RB Leipzig and Borussia Monchegladbach are first and second respectively.

I can’t say for sure who will win the Bundesliga crown, but one is for sure Bayern won’t retain their Bundesliga crown.

8. Arsenal to win the Europa League

Although this might come as a shock to everyone, Arsenal are my pick to win the 2019/20 Europa League.

The North London club are now managed by Mikel Arteta, and will look to impress in the secondary European competition. With a top four finish highly in doubt, Arsenal will redirect their efforts to win the Europa League. Also, Tottenham are not going to finish in the top four.

Spain to win the 2020 Olympics Men’s football competition

Spain were the winners of the 2019 UEFA European Under-21 Championship and are huge favourites to win the gold medal for football at the summer Olympics in Tokyo.

Boosting of players like Dani Olmo, Fabian Ruiz, Carlos Soler and Ansu Fati, Spain are my pick to win the tournament.
