Mexico is one of the top national teams in world football. It is believed that football was introduced in Mexico by the late 19th century. This is no surprise considering the vibrant and competitive league they have in their country that supplies a good chunk of their national team players. These player, however, were groomed at some of the top football clubs in Mexico.

1. Club America
Club America is one of the oldest clubs in Mexico. Nicknamed The Eagles, the club was founded in 1916 and is based in Mexico City. The North American club plays their home games at the Estadio Azteca, the largest stadium in Latin America, and one of the biggest stadiums in the world.
They have won a record 13 league titles and have won the Copa Mexico and Campeon de Campeones 6 times a piece. Internationally they have won the CONCACAF Champions Cup a record 7 times and also participated in several FIFA World Club Championships. Their current Manager is Miguel Herrera. This is also the most successful Mexican club with 13 Clausura titles. They have proven superior to many top MLS clubs on the continental level
2. CD Guadalajara
Also known as Chivas, they are a top-flight Mexican side based in the Mexican city Guadalajara. They were founded in 1906. They are known for not using any foreign players in their teams and have also never been relegated from the Mexican top division in their entire history. Chivas are one of the most successful club sides in the country with 12 league titles, 4 Copa Americas, and 7 Campeon de Campeones. Internationally they have won the CONCACAF Champions Cup two times. Guadalajara has a long-standing rivalry with Club America, and matches between both teams are known as El Súper Clásico of Mexico.
They are currently being managed by Victor Manuel Vucetich.
3. Deportivo Toluca FC
Toluca is a Mexican top-flight side based in the city bearing the same name. It was founded in 1917. Los Diablos Rojo has won the league 10 times in addition to their 2 Copa America and 4 Campeon de Campeones cup triumphs. They have also won the CONCACAF Champions Cup 2 times. It is one of the most popular clubs in Mexico. Their current manager is Jose Manuel de la Torre.
4. Cruz Azul
La Maquina, or The Machine as they are otherwise called, is also based in the capital Mexico City. They were founded in 1927 and have won 8 league titles and 2 Campeon de Campeones titles. Continentally they have won 6 CONCACAF Champions Cup titles. Their current Manager is Uruguayan Robert Siboldi.
5. Club Leon
Club Leon is a top-flight club based in the Central Mexican city bearing the same name. Founded in the early 1940s, Los Panzas Verdes, or Green Bellies as they are fondly called, have won the league title 7 times in their history. They have also won 5 Campeon de Campeones titles. Their current coach is Ignacio Ambriz. Club Leon is undoubtedly one of the top football clubs in Mexico, as it has produced some of Mexico’s greatest ever footballers.
