10 Football Players Who Wear The Number 25 Jersey (2022)

Currently, there are big names in football wearing big numbers on the back of their shirts. A deep look revealed that the number 25 is prevalent among defensive midfielders and defenders. However some attacking soccer players also wear the number 25 shirt for their clubs.

To get a deeper look at the prominent players who fall into this category, here are the top ten football players who wear jersey 25 in football in 2022.

1. Thomas Müller (Bayern Munich)

Even though we said defensive players dominate this list, we start with an attacking player who is probably the prominent player on the list.

Thomas Müller is a German footballer who can play as an attacking midfielder and plays for Bayern Munich and Germany’s national team.

The World Cup winner in 2014 has been wearing the number 25 shirt since his debut in 2008/2009 with the Bavarians.

The German is regarded as one of the best playmakers in football at the moment. He is also one of the top soccer players wearing the number 25 shirt.

2. Mohammed Elneny (Arsenal)

The 30-year-old midfielder plays for Arsenal and the Egyptian national team as a defensive midfielder. He has won the FA Cup and community shield with the Gunners.

Meanwhile, he has also gotten to the AFCON final twice, in 2017 and 2022, with the national team.

He wore 35 in his first few seasons at the club and momentarily had the number 4 shirt once but since his return to the club from a loan deal to Besiktas in 2020, he’s been putting on the 25 shirts.

3. Jadon Sancho (Manchester United)

Manchester United midfielder Jadon Sancho moved to Old Trafford from Borussia Dortmund in 2021. After his big-money move back to the City of Manchester, he was given jersey number 25.

At Dortmund, he wore jersey number seven all through his stay in Germany. Sancho won the U17 World Cup in 2017 with England and had part of his youth career at Manchester City.

4. Japhet Tanganga (Tottenham)

Tanganga is an English defender who plays for Tottenham. Japhet Tanganga emerged from the club’s academy and made his senior team debut in 2019, although he’s only played 23 games since then.

The 23-year-old still has a long way to go if he wants to be a consistent feature on the team’s starting lineup and also wants to change from the jersey number 25 on his back. 

5. Manuel Akanji (Manchester City)

27-year-old Manuel Akanji moved from Borussia Dortmund to Manchester City in the summer as one of Pep Guardiola’s summer signings.

He was handed jersey number 25 in his first season, although this could change in coming years depending on his importance and longevity in the team.

Akanji is currently with the Swiss national team at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

6. Niklas Süle (Borussia Dortmund)

As Manuel Akanji moved from Borussia Dortmund to Manchester City also did Niklas Sule moved from Bayern Munich to Dortmund.

Incidentally, he was also handed the number 25 jersey at Dortmund. Niklas Süle is a central defender who plays for the German national team; he spent five seasons at Bayern.

Niklas Süle has been playing in the German Bundesliga for over a decade, and has cemented his status as one of the best defenders in the Bundesliga.

7. Nuno Mendes (PSG)

Nuno Alexandre Tavares Mendes is another defender who wears 25 but this time in France for PSG.

Mendes is Portuguese and is just 20 years old. The left-back joined PSG on loan last season from Sporting, and after a couple of appearances, the capital club deemed him worthy of signing on a permanent basis.

Nuno Mendes is a hardworking, tenacious, and attacking fullback, as he is said to be one of the best young defenders in football.

8. Jesús Vallejo (Real Madrid)

25-year-old Spanish Defender Jesus Vallejo has been on the books of Real Madrid since 2015, but the player has been on several loan deals in and around Spain.

Last season, he was on loan at Granada, but he was also on loan at Wolves in the Premier League, played in the Bundesliga with Frankfurt and also went on loan to Real Zaragoza.

With Real Madrid this season, he has only played a single UEFA Champions League fixture.

9. Alessandro Florenzi (AC Milan)

Florenzi may not be the biggest of Italian defenders, but he’s etched his name into the history books of the Italian national team when he played a part with the team in winning the Euro 2020.

The full-back plays for AC Milan and only just joined them this season from Roma, whom he made over 200 appearances for and also went on several loan deals, including with PSG.

10. Emmanuel Dennis (Nottingham Forest)

Emmanuel Dennis is a Nigerian forward who plays for Nottingham Forest in the Premier League, although he joined the newly-promoted side during the summer from Watford.

Watford was relegated last season, and despite their relegation, Emmanuel Dennis is one of the players who stood out for the team.

Unfortunately, he has not been able to replicate the same form for Nottingham Forest this season.
