1. Qatar is the first Arab country, smallest nation, and the second Asian country to Host FIFA World Cup

It is really historic for Qatar, being a non-football playing nation, to host a mega event like FIFA World Cup. With this, Qatar will become the first Arab country and Muslim-dominated country to host the football world cup. 

Moreover, Qatar will rewrite the record book to become the smallest nation to host the world cup. It will replace Uruguay, which was the smallest prior to Qatar. 

Qatar is also the second Asian country to host the FIFA World Cup. Japan and South Korea were the first Asian countries who co-hosted the 2002 FIFA World Cup. 

2. Qatar Will Be the first host country to have never appeared in the World Cup before

The upcoming FIFA World Cup will be the 22nd edition of the tournament. But it will be the first edition where the host nation has never appeared in the tournament before.

Qatar established its football federation in 1960 and became a member of FIFA in 1963. Since then, the Qatar football team has been attempting to qualify but have failed.

Stéphanie Frappart from France, Rwandan referee Salima Mukansanga, and Japan’s Yoshimi Yamashita will become the first female referees at a men’s World Cup.
