The number 12 shirt is not the most recognizable jersey when it comes to identifying famous football players. 1. John Obi Mikel – Chelsea
The former Nigerian international and Chelsea FC midfielder was most remembered for his time with the Blues wearing the number 12. Mikel impressed largely during his time at Stamford Bridge, playing in the defensive midfield position. Despite the fact that he was stepping into the big shoes of Claude Makelele, who was a legend in that position, this didn’t faze John. Mikel made over 370 appearances for the Blues, winning leagues, FA Cups, and a UEFA Champions League title during his 11-year stint with them.
2. Thierry Henry – France
Many may not have noticed, but the former Arsenal FC striker wore the number 12 during his time with the French national team Les Bleus. Henry was one of the most prolific strikers during the late 90s and 2000s. Thierry won a World Cup and Euro title during his 13-year career with the national team scoring 51 goals in 123 appearances. He is widely regarded as one of best strikers in the Premier League of all-time.
3. Marcelo Vieira da Silva – Real Madrid
The Brazilian left-back currently plays for Spanish giants Real Madrid. The attacking fullback wears the number 12 jersey when playing for Los Blancos. Known for his attacking forays and dangerous crosses, Marcelo has been a key member of the Bernabeu-based side. He is considered to be one of the best left-backs in the world. Apart from domestic leagues and cup triumphs, the 32-year-old was also part of a historic Real Madrid team that won 4 UEFA Champions League trophies, including 3 back-to-back triumphs.
4. Giovanni van Bronckhorst – Barcelona
The former Dutch left-back played for a plethora of clubs during his long career. Giovanni played some seasons with Catalan giants FC Barcelona where he featured in over 150 games wearing the number 12 jersey. Van Bronckhorst won 2 leagues, a domestic cup, and a UEFA Champions League title during his time with Barcelona. He also played for Arsenal.
5. Olivier Giroud – Arsenal
The French World Cup winner is one of the most underrated strikers in the game right now. However, this hasn’t stopped him from continuing to prove his worth for whichever team he has played for so far in his career. Usually adorning the number 12 shirt, Giroud has played for English side Arsenal, with whom he won a couple of FA Cup titles. He currently plays for Chelsea, where he won a Europa Cup trophy.
