10 Football Players Who Wear The Number 20 Jersey (2023)

Ole Gunnar Solksjear, Gonzalo Higuain, Deco, Robin Van Persie, and a host of others have donned the number 20 shirt in football in times past.

It’s not one of the first-choice numbers but a lot of first-choice players wear them and it’s sometimes based on a player’s personal choice or unavailability of slots in the first 11 numbers.

However, these are the players who wear the number 20 in world football in 2022.

1. Bernardo Silva (Manchester City)

Portuguese midfielder Bernardo Silva has a key part of Manchester City’s midfield and has already scored two and assisted five in fourteen Premier League matches this season.

He’s already on the radar of Barcelona but it’s unsure if Pep Guardiola will let his number 20 go. The 28-year-old is already with the Portuguese team in Qatar for the FIFA World Cup.

Bernardo Silva is undoubtedly one of the best midfielders in the world, and one of the top soccer players wearing the number 20 Jersey. 

2. Vinicius Junior (Real Madrid)

Real Madrid youngster, Vinicius Junior is already repaying the faith the club had in him when they brought him in from Flamengo, Brazil in 2018.

Already, the 22-year-old has made over 130 appearances, won La Liga, won the UEFA Champions League, and is already a regular in the Brazilian national team.

Last season he had 17 goals and ten assists in the 35 La Liga games while this season he has six goals and three assists in just fourteen matches.

He has cemented his status as one of the best wingers in football.

Vinicius Junior is one the few footballers who wear the number 20 jersey for both club and country, as he also sports the number 20 for the Brazilian national team.

3. Sergi Roberto (Barcelona)

33-year-old Sergi Roberto may have just sixteen appearances for the national team since 2016 but he already commands over 200 matches for Barcelona since 2010.

He’s won La Liga and Copa Del Rey six times each, the UEFA Champions League, and a silver medal in the UEFA Nations League.

Sergi Roberto is underrated but extremely versatile player who is capable of playing in defense and attack.

4. Diogo Jota (Liverpool)

Diogo Jota is considered a big miss for Portugal at the World Cup after an injury problem kept him out of the team in Qatar.

Jota who moved to Liverpool from Wolverhampton wanderers scored 15 goals and four assists in 35 Premier League games last season.

The Portuguese has the ability to with both feet, is confident running either left or right when dribbling at an opponent, and a lethal aerial threat.

5. Diogo Dalot (Manchester United)

23-year-old Diogo Dalot joined Manchester United in 2018 from FC Porto and played a season on loan at AC Milan.

The defender has seven appearances for the Portuguese national team since making his debut in 2021.

Last season he made 24 appearances for the Red Devils in the Premier League and has already made 13 appearances in the Premier League this season plus six in the UEFA Europa League.

Diogo Dalot was given the number 20 shirt at Man United, which was previously worn by Argentine goalkeeper Sergio Romero.

The young defenders has the potential to become one of the best right-backs in the world.

6. Hakan Çalhanoğlu (Inter Milan)

Turkish international, Hakan Calhanoglu has played for some of the biggest teams in the Serie A, swapping between the two biggest Milan sides.

The 28-year-old joined AC Milan in 2017 after spending time in Germany with Karlsruher, Hamburger, and Bayer Leverkusen.

The Turkish International is efficient from long range and can score from free kicks. The midfielder made over 130 appearances for AC Milan before swapping sides with Inter Milan where he’s played close to 50 games.

He had 12 assists and seven goals in 34 games in the Serie A last season and he has four assists and two goals in fourteen this season.

Hakan Çalhanoğlu is also regarded as one of the best playmakers in football because of his ability to dictate play and create goalscoring opportunities.

7. Denis Zakaria (Chelsea)

Swiss international Denis Zakaria moved from Borussia Monchengladbach to Juventus in the summer but didn’t stay with the Old Ladies as he moved to Chelsea on loan in search of game time.

The defensive midfielder has 43 goals for the Swiss national team at the age of 25 having made his debut for the national team in 2016.

Denis Zakaria inherited the number 20 shirt at Chelsea after Callum Hudson-Odoi left the the club in the 2022/23 season.

8. Fraser Forster (Spurs)

Goalkeeper Fraser Forster has not been visible and consistent as he previously was when he joined Southampton from the Scottish side Celtic.

Since joining Spurs, he’s yet to feature for the North London club and has a sparse six appearances for the National team of England.

Fraser Forster is one of the few goalkeepers wearing the number 20 jersey.

9. Kingsley Coman (France)

Kingsley Coman is one of the youngsters to look out for at the World Cup for France. The Bayern Munich forward is so known for his pace which has come in a handful for the Bavarians.

Since making his debut for the national team in 2015, he has made over 40 appearances for the Blues although he was not part of the World Cup-winning team four years ago. Nevertheless, he’s set to add to it in Qatar.

10. Dani Carvajal (Spain)

While Carvajal wears the number 2 Jersey at Real Madrid, he’s the custodian of the number 20 shirt, this could be attributed to his inconsistent time with the national team, usually caused by his fitness issues which make him miss out on big competitions with the Spanish national team.

He’s only appeared at 31 appearances for the national side. However, for Real Madrid, he’s managed to win everything available to Real Madrid including the UEFA Champions League and La Liga.
