Kingsley was born on August 26th, 1999 in the Southeastern Nigerian city called Owerri. The gifted midfielder started out in the youth team of Nigerian national league side Abuja FC. Michael caught the eye of scouts from Italian Serie A side, Bologna FC, leading to his transfer in August of 2017.
He featured briefly in the Bologna youth setup before being elevated to the first-team squad in 2018. Limited game time saw him go on loan spells to different Serie B clubs. The youngster first went to Perugia where he scored once in 25 appearances. He later went to Cremonese and Reggina, respectively. So far, Kingsley has made only one appearance this season due to injury. He will be hoping to establish himself in the first-team squad during this 2021-2022 campaign.
Under 17 Days
Kingsley’s first involvement with the national team was with the Nigerian under-17 national team called the Golden Eaglets. He was part of the squad that finished fourth at the 2015 under-17 African championships held in Niger. Later in the year, Michael was named into the squad for the FIFA under-17 World Cup in Chile. The team went all the way to the final, eventually winning Nigeria’s fifth title, earning Kingsley a winner’s medal. He played with the likes of Victor Osimhen, Samuel Chukwueze, and Kelechi Nwakali.
The Bologna FC player would later progress and feature for the under 20 national team. He played for the team that finished third at the African under 20 championships. He was also part of the squad that was eliminated in the 2nd round of the 2019 FIFA under 20 World Cup held in Poland.
National Team Call-up
Kingsley would later earn his first call up to the senior national team the Super Eagles in 2021. He was named in the 30-man squad for the Qatar 2022 African World Cup qualifying matches against Liberia, and Cape Verde. The 22-year-old would later make his debut away to Cape Verde. The former youth team player would impress on his first start forming a good midfield partnership with fellow debutant Bonke Innocent that helped Nigeria to a valuable hard-fought 2-1 win.
