The year 2018 was a spectacular year in football. It was a memorable year which saw France lift the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia and Real Madrid lift the UEFA Champions League for the third time.

Football fans all over the world really enjoyed the year 2018. Well, guess what? 2019 promises to be an even bigger year in football. Today we will look at some of the major football events and competitions that will take place in 2019.

8 Major Footballing Events That Will Take Place in 2019

1. AFC Asian Cup 2019

The year 2019 will begin with the AFC Asian Cup. This will be the 17th edition of the top Asian football competition. The venue of the tournament will be the United Arab Emirates and will last from 5 January to 1 February 2019.

Australia is the current defending champions, and 24 teams will participate in the tournament.

The next major football competition to take place in 2019 is the 2019 FIFA U-20 FIFA World Cup in Poland. The year’s FIFA U-20 World Cup will be the 22nd edition of the biennial international men’s youth football championship. Twenty-four teams will take part in this tournament and Poland will host it for the first time. Defending champions England won’t be competing in this year’s edition.

The most prestigious football tournament for women will also be played in 2019. From the 7th of June till 7th of July 2019, twenty-four qualified teams from all over the world will fight the chance to be crowned the queens of football in the World. The United States was last edition’s champions and will be seeking to defend their title.

4. Copa America 2019 (Brazil)

After the centennial tournament last year, the prestigious South American competition returns. The 2019 Copa América will take place from 14th of June to the 7th of July. It will be the 46th edition of the Copa América. Brazil is the host, and 12 teams will be competing including Japan and Qatar.

5. UEFA Champions League 2019 Final

We already watched the group stages of the UEFA Champions League in 2018, and we loved it. In 2019, the elite European tournament will return with more excitement. This time a lot of teams would have bolstered there squad with many transfers that will take place in the January transfer window.  The final match of the UEFA will be played in Wanda Metropolitano, Madrid, Spain.

6. Africa Cup of Nations 2019

The prestigious African football competition will return in 2019, and this time it will be bigger. For the first time, the AFCON will be played by 24 teams. Cameroon the defending champions and former host were stripped if their hosting rights. Now either Egypt or South Africa could host the tournament. The competition will be held from 15 June to 13 July 2019.

7. CONCACAF Gold Cup 2019 (USA/Costa Rica)

The North Americans will also have their major soccer competition take place in 2019. This year’s edition will be the 15th edition of the CONCACAF Gold Cup and will run from 15 June to 7 July. This year’s CONCACAF edition will be hosting 16 teams for the first time. The United States and Costa Rica will co-host the tournament.

8. FIFA U-17 World Cup Peru 2019

The year will end with the 2019 FIFA Under 17 World Cup in Peru. This year’s Under 17 football tournament will be the 18th edition of the youth football championship. Peru will host the tournament for the second time, and it will run between 5 and 27 October 2019.
