The 2020 football year was greatly affected by the coronavirus pandemic. Major tournaments were delayed, rescheduled, and canceled. Some of the affected tournaments were the Euro 2020, Copa America, Olympic games, and the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
With the year close to an end, football fans now have their sights on the football events that will come up next year.

1. UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINAL
The 2020/21 UEFA Champions League final will be hosted by the Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul, Turkey. The stadium was initially set to host the 2020 final but the pandemic affected UEFA’s plans. The 2021 Champions league final — which will be the 66th edition (and the 29th since it was renamed to UEFA Champions league) — has been scheduled to take place on the 29th of May 2021.
2. UEFA EUROPA LEAGUE FINAL
The 2020/2021 Europa league final will be played at the Gdansk Stadium in Gdansk, Poland on the 26th of May 2021.
3. UEFA SUPER CUP
The Super Cup is annually contested by the winners of the Champions League and the Europa League. The 2021 edition — the 46th— will be played at Windsor Park in Belfast, Northern Ireland, in August 2021.
4. UEFA EUROS 2021
Initially, Euro 2020 before it was rescheduled due to coronavirus, Euro 2021 will be competed by 24 teams across 12 European cities from the 11th of June to the 11th of July 2021.
5. MEN & WOMEN OLYMPIC FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT
The 2020 Olympic games was postponed to 2021 and will be the 32nd edition. It will be held in Tokyo, Japan. The men’s football tournament will be contested by 16 teams, while 12 teams will contest at the women’s. The Olympic football tournaments will be from the 23rd of July to the 7th of August 2021.
6. 2021 COPA AMERICA
The 2020 Copa America, which will now take place in 2021, will be the 47th edition of the tournament. It will be hosted by both Columbia and Argentina and will be played from the 11th of June to the 10th of July 2021. 12 teams will participate at the 2021 Copa America.
7. FIFA U-17 WORLD CUP
The 19th edition of the FIFA U-17 World Cup will be hosted by Peru in 2021 and will be contested by 24 countries. The dates for the tournament have not yet been announced.
8. FIFA U-20 WORLD CUP
The 2021 FIFA U-20 World Cup will be the 23rd edition of the biennial tournament. Indonesia will host it, and it has been scheduled to take place from the 20th of May to the 12th of June 2021.
9. UEFA EUROPEAN U-21 CHAMPIONSHIP
The 2021 UEFA U-21 Euros will be hosted by Hungary and Slovenia. The tournament will be in two stages: the group stage, which be between the 24th and the 30th of March 2021, and the knockout stage, which will be between the 31st of May to the 6th of June 2021.
10. UEFA EUROPEAN U-19 CHAMPIONSHIP
The UEFA U-19 Euros will be from the 30th of June to the 13th of July 2021.
11. UEFA WOMEN CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINAL
The 2021 final of the women’s edition of the UEFA Champions League will be the 20th. It will be played at the Gamla Ullevi in Gothenburg, Sweden, on the 16th of May 2021.
