Arsenal has successfully signed former Dortmund star, and Armenian captain, Henrikh Mkhitaryan from Manchester United after a swap deal involving Alexis Sanchez. The deal has been lauded by critics as a good deal for both teams, even, Arsenal coach, Arsene Wenger praised the new signing. 1. Henrikh Mkhitaryan was born on Armenian capital city of Yerevan on 21 January 1989. However, he grew up partly, in south-eastern, France. His father was Hamlet Mkhitaryan, also a professional footballer in his homeland, who later played for the Armenian national team. His father died of a brain tumor, when he was just 33, after which his family left France to move back to Yerevan.
2. Mkhitaryan first club was the FC Pyunik youth system, which he joined in 1995. He was very successful there and moved to Ukrainian Premier League club Metalurh Donetsk in 2009. At age 21, he became captain of the club, becoming the youngest captain in Metalurh Donetsk history. He joined Shaktar Donetsk, had a stellar season, and later moved to Borussia Dortmund afterwards.
3. Mkhitaryan has been named Armenian Footballer of the Year for seven times, every year since 2009, except 2010.
4. Henrikh Mkhitaryan has stated that his footballing idol is Zinedine Zidane.
5. Mkhitaryan is also Armenia’s all-time highest goalscorer. He has scored 25 goals in 70 international matches since his debut in January 2007. He also scored Armenia’s first ever hat-trick in a 7–1 friendly win over Guatemala in 2014.
