Manchester United have closed in on the signing of Alexis Sanchez. Manchester coach Jose Mourinho was willing to get him to Old Trafford immediately, after Manchester City pulled out from the race following their long pursuit of the Arsenal star man, since last year.
It is a known fact that Alexis Sanchez has always been on the radar of Manchester United, since the days of Sir Alex Ferguson, and United finally have him now after a swap deal with Arsenal.

Jose Mourinho has changed Manchester United’s formation and approach
depending on the kind kf opposition they face. However, the common Mourinho style this league has been to defend solidy and hit opposition teams on the counter-attack.
Although, Alexis Sanchez might not have the kind of defensive
discipline Mourinho usually craves for from his forwards, but he has a very high work-rate and at times can drop back to help the defence
Sanchez also has the kind of football mentality that Mourinho needs in his players. Sanchez will provide Manchester United with his outstanding speed, decisiveness and penetration on the counter-attack.
Where will Sanchez fit in Manchester United?
1. In Manchester United’s current 4-2-3-1 formation
The current United side, have played many matches this season in a 4-2-3-1 formation. Mourinho will definitely like to utilize the forward very well in this set up. He could use Sanchez from the right of a 4-2-3-1 formation. Sanchez has played on the right wing during his days at Udinese and Barcelona.
Alexis Sanchez could also start on the left and challenge Rashford and Martial for that position. It is unlikely that he could be used as a false nine, due to Mourinho’s preference of a strong natural striker spearheading the attack.
The could also play behind the striker in this formation, so he can breaking down defensive teams who sit back and defend deeply. Apart from his amazing goal-scoring ability, Sanchez can also drop into the midfield in this formation, behind the striker and pick passes as well as create chances.
2. In a 3-5-2 formation
Another set up in which Mourinho could use Sanchez is in a three-man defensive line. The Portuguese coach has occasionally changed Manchester United’s formation to a 3-5-2 formation.
In this setup, Alexis Sanchez can play as a supporting striker to either Lukaku or Ibrahimovic. While Pogba, Matic, Fellaini or Mata occupy the midfield position. Leaving the wing back positions to Valencia, Rojo and Young.
It is left to see, if Alexis Sanchez will be a success at Old trafford, however the abilities he brings to Manchester United are just what they need to get Lukaku firing back and help them in the League and other competitions.
